You have heard us talk about Liana Mutia. Liana came to El Toro Judo Club for training in Judo. It was during this early period that we found out Liana was losing her eyesight to a degenerative condition. Undeterred, Liana continued to train with Chester, who, confident in her ability, took her to her first regional competition in Dallas - the President’s Cup - where she won a gold medal in her weight division. She caught the attention of USA Judo’s visually impaired coaches and was offered training at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado, where she trained under their tutalage while also attending Colorado State University.
Over the years our El Toro Nonprofit has raised funds and support for her national and international travel, including the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021, when she was chosen for the USA Paralympic Judo team. She placed 9th that year, but soon after began to train for the Paris 2024 games. She also obtained sponsors, including Toyota, so our financial support was no longer needed, but as her home dojo and “forever” fans, we continue to support her and also highlight her here, so all of you who have donated and supported us over the years can see what your dollars are capable of doing for a student athlete with dreams that may include going to the Olympics.
Today, dreams were realized.

Today was a good day.
